November Color

Life Looms Large put out a suggestion of showing the color for different regions of the US and even the world.  I loved her idea and have been looking at different color combos in nature.  Here in South Carolina, we have many of the colors one would expect for the fall…  imageimageimageimage I also looked for those one would not expect.  I am surprised by cool colors in the fall…image the red hat ladies would love this, but I didn’t expect it in nature!image the Chinese tallow always puts as many colors together as possible!image deep purple of the sweet gum with burgundy, yellow, green and redimage then the pale yellow with the red of the coral bark japanese mapleimage And then here is the confused… azalea…image ornamental cherry tree….image the morning glory…image One last of Lake Jocasseeimage

Isn't nature remarkable in her ability to make things just go together beautifully. Proportions, variations in color and the organic shapes of everything seem to make it all so lush in the visual sense.
Those are beautiful pictures. Love the depth of color on the Sweet Gum tree.

Great colors! I'm a bit jealous of how November looks there. The purple gum leaves are beautiful. We have so few gum trees here that I'm not sure what color their leaves turn.

You must be having strange weather for spring plants like azaleas and cherries to be blooming now.

Thanks for giving me a peek at sunny skies and leaves! Both are in short supply in NH in November!

Theresa - I do think nature knows how to make it just right and in my stage with tapesty I wonder why I need to reinvent the wheel! - or in this case redesign the colors and shapes.

Sue - the sweet gum eventually can turn the deep purple - but it's like the maples turning red in your region - the conditions have to be right to get the whole sweet hum to turn that dark purple - otherwise they just yellow out... We have still had some days in the 70s this month, but I think those are over - we're pretty much in the 60s here - those confused plants have generally been in ground less than a year and are sitting in full sun. I'm afraid for them because we should get a good dip to freezing this weekend!

Absolutely beautiful! Our color of the month in colorful Colorado in November is brown! Soon we'll see some white, though, as well.

Thanks Kathy - in about a week we'll be there with you at all brown - but my Grandmother only wore earthtones, so I am not all opposed to brown! Of course, a blanket of white does sound nice - well as long as it's only for a week or two!

I love your photographs of leaves and nature. Here in Australia it is summer and all the green grass has gone straw coloured since we are still in drought in many areas.

I'll have to admit these photos are fomr a couple of weeks ago and very, very soon, we will be all brown also! Unfortunately, we do not have the snow to look forward to. Fortunately, just when the browns start dominating, people start decorating for Christmas and we'll have lights to ponder.
