Airport and Los Angeles

imageWe have finally made it to LA and are presently sitting at the gate to wait for the flight to leave to Auckland, New Zealand.  Our plans have been to fly to LA in the evening and have the next day in LA to be “normal people” for a bit before getting on that 13 hour flight.  (Can one be normal in LA?)  The plan has worked out, but did have a few bumps along the way.  The first flight from home to LA was delayed 4 hours, so we didn’t  get to the hotel until 1 am!  I’m just glad we did allow for a day between the two flights!

As you can imagine we did sleep in late, but not too late to walk down to the beach.  We stayed at Manhattan Beach which is just 4 miles south of the LA airport.  Manhattan Beach is the Mecca for beach volleyball.  I didn’t even both counting how many nets were set up – but they were two across and down the beach as far as one could see in both directions from the Manhattan Beach Pier.

imageimageThere also was good surfing to be had, but of course we just watchedimageA seagull joined us to watch the surfers.                                         image  From there we wandered up the beach and just took in all the housesimage image  And they are ready for Christmas – Southern California style!image image We send warm wishes to you and yours this holiday season!

LOL, LA is something isn't it? After living there for 18 months, I can say without a doubt, it is one of my least favorite places.
So, Newark Airport is the gateway to Rome and LA International is the gateway to New Zealand! ;-)
Have a safe flight, and I hope the 13 hours pass quickly, maybe you will both be able to sleep for a good portion it.

When we were flying to Hawaii when we got married, we stopped overnight in LA. It was just after one of the major earthquakes in the mid-1990's.

In the middle of the night we woke up because the hotel was creaking and groaning and our bed was shaking like Jiffy Pop. We were on the 15th floor of an airport hotel - so we swayed a lot and got pretty scared.

We were thinking that it would be so hard to live there if earthquakes like that were common.

The next morning on the national news, we saw that it had been a major aftershock. Then we didn't feel quite as foolish for how scared we were in the middle of the night.

It's 18 out this morning - but sunny. A far cry from those surfing Santas and sand snowmen!!

Some very pretty flowers in your Picassa album!!

Lovely rose, and surfing Santa looks like fun, but all that concrete is a bit over whelming. Even the other santa is concrete. And i gasped when i saw the beachside with the house fronts on the dunes and all those volley ball nets - i'd be in culture shock there. Thanks for sharing the pics tho, K.
