Lesson 1001 on Shadow

I promise I will get back to posting about weaving, There have just been a few things in the way, but until then here's MY latest lesson from Shadow.

We have had our bedroom floors refinished this past week. Last night in our trying to put things back together, I was chatting away to my husband and decided to open a window. It was only 81F yesterday and by the evening was in the low 70s. Shadow often likes to sniff the air. So I opened the bottom wide for him. Within seconds all I could see was that cute black rear end silently gliding down to the ground. Panic did not set in until I saw...

he was running at full tilt...

down the street...

after a black cat...

I screamed "James!" By the time he understood and we got outside, there was no Shadow to be seen. I took off in the direction he had run. Fortunately, he was only two doors down checking out the dogs in their run.

Morale: Never assume that sweet face is going to do exactly what I expect. He's 2 years old and I must stay on my toes!

"All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. For after all, he was only human. He wasn't a dog. (Snoopy, at his typewriter)" - Charles Schultz

Better to the cat than to chase a skunk. We are having cooler nights and that's when the skunks start foraging around here. Dusk and dawn are the prime times for pooches to get sprayed. Although our cat got sprayed one morning too.

Good luck!

Enjoy the new floors!

As a terrier owner with only 2 trustworthy off leash dogs, (questionable at that) I can identify. Silly story, I was having work done on a house and the contractor left the gate open. No Dennett could be found so I hit the pavement in search of Dennett. After an hour of scouring the neighborhood and in tears and panic I went home to get the car to search.
As I was going through the house for my keys I heard a sound. There, locked in his crate, was Dennett. I had put him in there hours before just in case and forgotten it. Glad you found him and hope we see some pics of the beautifulrefinished floors.

Skunks??? Ooooo - yes that would be a problem. We do get some opossums this time of year and that could be damaging rather than smelly. The floors look miraculously wonderful compared to where they were, but I know I will be even more thrilled once everything is back in it's place!

Both of our Brittanys (past and present) have gone out open windows....maybe it's a hunting dog feature!! We sometimes let Bailey jump out the sunroom windows to chase squirrels. But then that sets up days of him whining near the window whenever he sees a squirrel (which is often).

I'll bet an opossum would run from Shadow. Bailey has chased both fishers and porcupines - and they both ran. (Well, porcupines are slow - I had to intervene before Bailey got quills in his snout.)

Good luck putting everything back together!! Enjoy the 'new' floors!

Theresa - that sounds like something I would do! Searching everywhere and he's right where he belongs! I did find him at home in the yard yesterday and he had buried his food bowl! We did finally find it this morning.

Sue - thanks for the comfort that Brittanys do this also. I understand not setting a standard that he expects later. I think very hard with him. If it happens twice he expects it to be part of the routine. It's been fun to go through everything - it's almost like moving and sorting on what will be put where. I'm taking the opportunity to make some changes.

As soon as I saw it, I thought of your posts.

Thanks Valerie! I had not seen this link - The Tapestry Weavers South that I am a part of is scheduling a workshop with Sylvia Heyden in November. I will miss it and it is making me sick!!! There are few left that we can learn from that studied at Bauhaus!
Thanks again for thinking of me!
